My mission in life has been to make art. I love everything about it- the cathartic setup of supplies, the expression of my thoughts and ideas, getting lost in the process, and appreciating my results- whether good or bad. Friends and family have always encouraged me to sell my art because they like it. I’ve done commissions, mostly pet portraits. I often find flowers and animals inspiring. But I didn’t feel connected to the identity of the lady that does cute animals and flowers. I wanted my art to be more meaningful, something people like me can relate to.
I kept asking myself, what would other artists and creatives buy. I tried my hand at YouTube and started my own channel, Samantha’s Art Lab, which focuses on art tutorials. During that time I enjoyed playing with my art supplies. I was connected to the tools, the motions, the products, and getting my hands dirty. I began to realize that art is the thing I needed to celebrate. I want creatives to look at my artwork and relate to the same joy I have when I connect with my supplies. I started focusing on art that creatives would want to decorate their studios.
I find myself to be a Renaissance woman, or “Jill of all trades”. I am curious about all the hobbies. Painting, drawing, illustration, block printing, crochet, embroidery, reading, video games, board games… All of these things bring me joy. I know there area lots of others out there who share the Renaissance vibes. So I’m starting a new journey and transforming Samantha Obscura into a brand that feels right, one that I can finally connect with.
